Name: Tiffany Vuong
School: Orcutt Academy High School
What issue area are you most passionate about? Which do you know the most about? (Immigration, environment, woman’s rights, mental health, LGBTQ rights, etc.):
I would say I'm most passionate about how inequality and discrimination has affected the mental health of minority groups, particularly in the youth. Mental health is something that is often stigmatized and disregarded in society. This does not offer support and help to those who need it. Working alongside Youth Making Change gives me an opportunity to improve this issue in my community.
What activities do like to do regularly as a pastime?
As a senior in high school, I don't have that much free time anymore. I always have things to do and places to be. Besides Youth Making Change, school, and volunteering, I just like to spend as much time as possible with my friends. Growing up on the central coast, I love taking trips down to the beach. I also enjoy walking on the streets of downtown San Luis Obispo with my boyfriend. My family and I also like having dinner in downtown Santa Barbara whenever my sister is in town. I'm constantly around people, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
What clubs/organizations/sports/job are you involved with outside of youth making change?
Besides Youth Making Change, I am board members in both National Honor Society and the California Scholarship Federation. I dedicate most of my time to these 3 clubs/organizations, as it helps improve my community, in both Santa Maria and Orcutt. During the weekends, I volunteer at the Merrill Gardens assisted living facility. I love being able to interact with the elderly. They're all so sweet.
Is there anything else that you would like people to know about yourself?
I'm really excited to be going into my last year as a Youth Making Change board member! Santa Maria will always have a place in my heart and I'm so happy I'm a part of making a difference in my home town
