What issue area are you most passionate about? Which do you know the most about? (Immigration, environment, woman’s rights, mental health, LGBTQ rights, etc.):
There is truly no one topic I am more passionate about compared to the rest. If I had to choose, I would say I am the most passionate about educational equity and reform, because I don't want any student to feel like their identities or backgrounds prevents them from achieving their potential. I want all students to have access to resources that allow them to pursue their passions, and I do not want any student to feel like they are incapable of achievement because of the inequity they face in academic settings. In the future, I hope to use the tool of education to reduce (and hopefully eliminate) child labor and exploitation. I believe through educational reform, we can solve or at least attempt to solve many problems faced in our community relating to social, political, and environmental justice. In addition, I am also passionate about intersectional mental health because mental health support is not a monolithic topic, and it can be extremely difficult for certain people to receive the mental health support they need because of their numerous intersecting identities. I want to work on providing mental health support to people of all identities, accounting for all the oppression they face in their community while appreciating their individuality and unique life perspective.
What activities do like to do regularly as a pastime?
In my pastime, I enjoy playing volleyball a few times a week, I love volunteering as much as I can, and I enjoy spending time with my friends and family whenever I can. I also really enjoy doing yoga every morning! I enjoy reading nightly, going on long walks every day, and spending time exploring Santa Barbara whenever I get the chance! Lastly, I love speaking to my family in India as frequently as possible:)
What clubs/organizations/sports/job are you involved with outside of youth making change?
Outside of Youth Making Change, I am involved in volleyball, ASB, Ethnic Studies Club, RFASST, and I am also part of the Health Academy at San Marcos. I am currently a CIT at United Way's Fun in The Sun program, and I also volunteer at Teddy Bear Cancer Foundation.
Is there anything else that you would like people to know about yourself?
I am a huge extrovert and I love working with other people! I am extremely driven to making our community more accepting, inclusive, and supportive of everyone, and I aspire to do that by working to make our education system more equitable for all students. I am very excited to be a Youth Making Change Board Member this year!
