Name: Anna Lucia Muñoz
School: San Marcos High School
What issue area are you most passionate about? Which do you know the most about? (Immigration, environment, woman’s rights, mental health, LGBTQ rights, etc.):
I am passionate about the conservation of the environment itself and protecting every person's access to nature, as in the end, we owe everything to it. As a public school student, I firmly believe in investing in our education system, making sure that all students have the sufficient resources, attention, and accurate information to thrive during the confusing years of childhood, regardless of their family's income. Above all, I am an advocate for all marginalized groups, be it the Black community, indigenous peoples, other people of color, women, the LGBTQ+ community, people with disabilities, etc. As Martin Luther King put it, "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere."
What activities do like to do regularly as a pastime?
Almost daily, I can be spotted walking around my neighborhood while listening to a podcast in one ear. When I'm at home, I enjoy playing silly songs on my saxophone and piano, doing fun little arts and crafts, or ranting to anybody who will listen about my thoughts on whatever TV show I'm currently watching.
What clubs/organizations/sports/job are you involved with outside of youth making change?
Outside of YMC, I am the drum major of the San Marcos Marching Band and Commissioner of the Arts on the San Marcos ASB. I also spend my time advocating for local issues as the Sergeant at Arms for Future Leaders of America.
