Defeating the Puente Power Plant Flyer
Defeating the Puente Power Plant: Victory for People & Planet Expand

With Maricela Morales (CAUSE), Linda Krop (EDC), and Carmen Ramirez (Ventura County Supervisor & fmr. City of Oxnard Mayor Pro Tem)

Hear from activists, organizers, legal experts, and elected officials who were at the heart of the three-year struggle to defeat another proposed polluting power plant in Oxnard in 2018. The defeat of the Puente Power plant was a victory for people and planet and involved direct action, local and statewide lobbying, years of advocacy, a legal approach, and public consciousness raising in this case study for environmental justice.

In our Civic Engagement Strategies Series, we’ll hear directly from those at the heart of important economic, environmental, and social justice efforts in our region. These stories of victories and struggle carry with them a wealth of insight into a broad array of strategies and considerations in a broad array of social change work. We’ll hear more about the nuances of various strategies--from organizing, mobilizing, advocating, and lobbying to direct action and a legal approach--interplay with one another from recent local case studies.
