The Santa Maria Chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ) has scheduled its second Community Dialogue, “Know Your Rights,” for Thursday, June 17th, at 6pm. We are partnering once again with The Racial Justice Committee (RJC) of the Santa Barbara County Public Defender’s Office. The RJC ‘s informative presentation is designed to educate the community on their rights when interacting with law enforcement. A panel of experienced criminal defense attorneys will present information on what to do when interacting with police during traffic stops, street encounters, how to handle an arrest and interrogations, and more. The goal is to educate folks on what to do – and what police should not do – during unwanted police contacts. Please join us for an interesting discussion on a timely topic.
