Amy Buesker moved from San Jose to Santa Barbara in 2001 to attend UCSB and fell in love with the city. She graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s in Psychology, but couldn’t bring herself to leave this paradise! She is currently the recreation coordinator for Katie’s FUNd at Alpha Resource Center. Katie’s FUNd supports social/recreational programs for teens and young adults with developmental disabilities. Amy coordinates and oversees all of the events for this group ranging from a simple trip to the movies or dinner to a weekend camping trip or a visit to Disneyland! She also manages the social media feeds for Alpha and coordinates the Prevention, Resource and Referral Program for children under the age of 3 that are at risk of developmental delay. She has worked at Alpha for almost 10 years and has a passion for the field of developmental disabilities. She also works at a local family child care and enjoys spending time around children.
Amy is fluent in American Sign Language and volunteers at HEARTS Therapeutic Riding Center to help facilitate communication with one of the riders who is hard-of-hearing. In her leisure time she enjoys running, ballroom dancing, baking, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying time in this beautiful city! She loves to travel and is looking forward to exploring more destinations in the future.
