Pedro Paz was born and raised locally. Attended Dos Pueblos High School and Santa Barbara City College. Pedro has a Ph.D. and M.A. from UC Santa Barbara in Education specializing in Language, Culture and Literacy. He is passionate about serving his community and giving back to causes that contribute to the diversity and vibrant nature of the community he was born in. He has worked for a number of local organizations including La Casa de la Raza, UC Santa Barbara and both the Santa Barbara and Carpinteria School Districts. Worked for the County Merced, with his last position there being that of Executive Director of First 5 Merced County. Currently is employed by the County of Santa Barbara and works as the Program & Evaluation Manager for First 5 Santa Barbara County, an organization that works in partnership with individuals and organizations throughout the county, to support the health, early learning and well-being of children pre-natal through age 5 and their families. In addition, he serves as a Trustee for the Santa Barbara Unified School District Board of Education, having been elected to the board in 2012 and ending his term in 2016. Pedro has also served as a past Commissioner for the County of Santa Barbara’s Human Relation Commission and currently serves on the Santa Barbara City College Foundation Board of Directors.
