Support for a series of residencies at local schools for storyteller Michael Katz to work with youth of all ages in Santa Barbara

Center for Successful Aging / General Support – $10,000
General support for this recently independent organization advancing local seniors’ quality of life

El Congresso de UCSB / “El Plan de Santa Barbara” 40th Anniversary Conference – $3,000
Sponsorship of a statewide multi-generational gathering of Chicano Studies faculty, staff, and students to celebrate the history of and plan for the future of Chicano Studies

Families ACT! / General Support – $1,500
Funding to support on-going organizing of criminal justice and mental health services by this group of clients and families

Family Therapy Institute / Academy of Healing Arts (AHA!) General Support – $5,000
General support for this innovative program for youth – focused on social consciousness, character, imagination, and emotional intelligence

Just Communities Central Coast / Institute for Equity in Education – $6,000
Support for this residential training for educational leaders on issues of race and difference, and to explore ways to address institutional racism and educational inequality in schools

Just Communities Central Coast / Youth Violence Service Providers Retreat – $5,000 + $15,000 (site)
Support for long-time leaders in youth violence and gang intervention work to address issues that have historically prevented collaboration & sustainability

Just Communities Central Coast / Emergency Response Funding – $3,000
Emergency funding to respond to attacks on tolerance and ant-bullying training by a parent at Goleta Valley Junior High School

NoozHawk / GreenHawk Sustainable Living On-Line Media Project – $5,000
Start-up funding for this online daily news site focusing on sustainable living, energy, and environmental issues in the Santa Barbara region

Quail Springs Learning Oasis & Permaculture Farm / General Operations – $2,500
General support for the work of this experiential permaculture learning site

Santa Barbara County Action Network / General Operations – $5,000
Support for SB CAN’s on-going work in support of fair and affordable housing, open space preservation and effective public transportation

Sarah House / General Support – $5,000
Funding for Sarah House’s nationally recognized “social model” of end-of-life care and HIV/AIDS support for low-income individuals

Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Center / 2009 Sexual Assault Awareness Month Programming – $3,000
Support for a month-long series of workshops, art projects, community gatherings and trainings focused on addressing, responding to and preventing sexual assault in the LGBT community

The People’s Institute at Casa Esperanza Homeless Shelter / Winter 2008-2009 Program – $800
Funding to support classes and seminars at Casa Esperanza Homeless Shelter organized independently by volunteer teachers, activists, and homeless residents

Toastmasters International / Youth Leadership at Los Prietos Boys Camp & Academy – $5,000
Seed funding for this program teaching public speaking and self-expression skills to incarcerated youth

Santa Barbara County Action Network (SB CAN) / Mobile Homeowners Project – Condo Conversions 2.0 – $3,000
Funding to challenge the use of condo conversion law threatening affordable housing at the Rancho Estates Mobile Home Park in Goleta
