| Nancy
Weiss has been involved in social services
and social justice and environmental issues in Santa
Barbara County since 1980. She received a B.A. in History,
with an emphasis in Women of Latin America, and a B.A.
in Spanish, with honors, at UCSB in 1985 and attended
La Universidad Catolica del Peru in Lima, Peru in 1982-83
as part of her studies.
For the past 10 years she has served both as the
Executive Director, and now as the Associate Director.
During her tenure at the Fund she has worked closely
with hundreds of local non-profit and grassroots organizations.
In addition to her work on the staff of the Fund
for Santa Barbara, Nancy currently provides consulting
services to non-profit organizations whose missions
fall outside of the range of the Fund's purview. Planning,
retreat facilitation, non profit management, community
organizing strategy and fund-raising are the main
foci.
From 1984 - 1993 Nancy was on the staff of the Santa
Barbara Rape Crisis Center and held a variety of positions
including officer manager, community education coordinator,
crisis intervention coordinator, self defense instructor,
and, ultimately, executive director.
Since 1980, Nancy has served on numerous Boards of
Directors, including the founding Board of the Non
Profit Support Center of Santa Barbara County, and
has volunteered with a diversity of community projects.
She is currently the Vice-Chair of the First 5 Children
& Families Commission of Santa Barbara County's
Advisory Board.
Certifications Nancy has earned include: Non-Profit
Board Development Consultant Training Certification,
1998; Mediator, Advanced Community Mediation Training
Certification, 1997; Self Defense Instructor, Southern
California Rape Hotline Alliance, 1986; Sexual Assault
Counselor, Office of Criminal Justice Planning, State
of California, 1984. She is verbally fluent in Spanish.
Nancy has been honored as a "Local Hero"
from the Santa Barbara Independent Newspaper in 1999;
and, with the "Roses Award", for community
empowerment and social justice from the Santa Barbara
Women's Political Committee in 1999.
