The structural violence of racism is all around us.  While many in white communities claim we live in a post-racial society since the election of Obama, the reality of persistent, institutionally based racism is evident from the police murder of Michael Brown to the devastating racial dimensions of economic inequality.  While communities of color organize for racial and economic justice, what can be done in white communities to build the movement for multiracial democracy?

Join us for a talk by longtime social justice activist Chris Crass who will share stories of coming to consciousness about racism and sexism, and the journey into anti-racist and feminist activism.  Drawing on over 25 years of organizing experience, Chris Crass will share insights on developing healthy movement culture, vision and strategy to nourish radical political imagination, build powerful alliances, and sustain us in the work of building grassroots liberatory movements for change.

The challenges before us are daunting.  The need for powerful and dynamic activism for justice is clear.  But what do we do?  This workshop draws insights and lessons from two of the most effective organizers of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s, Ella Baker and Anne Braden.
